Hall's Fell Ridge is an impressive sight from above. By climbing up the ridge one might not look back for long enough to appreciate its beauty but by looking down at what I was coming to I could see it for all its glory, a sublime ridge with an extraordinarily beautiful curve. From road junction west of Horse & Farrier, uphill to car park, then path left of stream up to open fell. Turn R along fell wall and after 1km cross Gate Gill stream. Take path up spur corner ahead. After levelling, either rocky crest (good holds, well used) or various small paths to right, up to Blencathra summit.

Halls Fell Ridge is a succession of low crags that gradually rise to the summit, while Sharp Edge is the most exposed grade 1 scramble in the Lake District. Climbing Sharp Edge requires nerves of steel, a head for heights, and steady hands and feet. It is not to be undertaken lightly, but you can still enjoy a great hike by avoiding the worst.

Great British Escapades Blencathra the hard way

This is a very challenging route that will require very careful footing, a head for heights, and scrambling experience as you make your up the very narrow and exposed Sharp Edge to the summit of Blencathra and down the equally exposed and steep Halls Fell Ridge. Starting in a lay-by on the A66 (take care when crossing), the trail heads into the hills and begins to climb beside the River.

Hall's Fell Ridge is another of Blencathra's famous ridges, but more commonly used as a route of decent after an ascent via Sharp Edge. It is a superb scramble without any really difficult sections but still maintains some decent exposure. It's an excellent ridge to ascend or descend and a perfect introduction to ridge scrambling.
