#1 · May 5, 2022 I have 2017 chevrolet trax 1800 ecotec engine, when I park the car for more than a day and then start it, after few seconds 89! code appears on the dashboard and the radiator fan starts till the rpm of the engine goes to (1) * then the code dissappears and the fan stops.

Be careful because code 89 indicates a thermostat failure, and the engine might overheat. Many Trax vans have this failure, and you do not have to take it to the agency for it to be solved. Code 89 has become a recurring nightmare. I've had at least six different experts work on the car and every time we seem to have located the issue and resolved it, that code 89 suddenly appears.. If it is USA calibrated equipment, it may define Chevrolet under the 'Trucks setting' and not 'cars'. Make sure they are using compatible Test.

Code 89 has to do with the thermostat getting stuck. Mine got stuck open which set off the 89 because the car couldn't stop cooling itself down. Or get up to temp quickly causing it to act weird. I replaced the thermostat and all was good. I'm guessing whoever had this car before you just ignored this problem, which caused the engine to run.

Im not seeing code 89 in my sources. What type of scan tool are you using? There may be an interface issue, and will need to switch to different scan tool to pull codes. Most are in Pxxxx format. Please list any code you may be seeing and will help with diag/repair information. There may be issue with variable valvetrain.

Code 89 is a general engine problem code, it could be almost anything. There are some places that says it's the oil-life monitor. It isn't. Sometimes it can be the thermostat, but not always. It should be safe to drive to a mechanic, but check the oil and coolant levels before you start. ChevyGuy

#1 · Jan 12, 2021 Chev cruze 2015 display code 89. have changed oil and service car but 89 re-appears. Tried internet which said do pedal pump and reset on DIC. My DIC does not display the reset function. Only display 3 option between mile and kilometer. does not ask oil life or reset function.

Maddy1974 I have the same problem with my Chevrolet Truck 1.7d 2013, with code 89 and code 24. I fixed the code 24 when I replaced the two lights should be the W5W lights for the code to disappear. But I still haven't found a solution for code 89, I replaced the thermostat and the code was not lost, replaced with new oil and filters, nothing.

The code you mentioned is commonly related to an issue with the cooling system thermostat. What I need you to do is pay attention to the engine temperature when this comes on and then again when it goes off.
