Some suggestions: First, add a button to subtract from your Attributes during chargen. Second, add a "literacy warning" if you don't have at least one dot in Linguistics. I know I always forget that my character RAW can't read without a dot in it. Third, add an ability to add tags to weapons.

I love Exalted, but you're not wrong, these books are not newbie-friendly. If you're not familiar with it, there's an excellent podcast - Systematic Understanding of Everything, that covers a lot of the basic mechanics and lore of the game, including an episode on character creation. I believe there's a couple good youtube videos covering it too.

Generally a combat character is going to want an accuracy booster, a damage booster, and a defense penalty negator at the bare minimum. Soak boosters, multiattacks, and more of the above are solid extensions, if you don't have anything else in mind. An artifact weapon can easily substitute for a damage booster and artifact armor for a soak.
