AEA R92

To that end, the R92 has been specifically designed to cater to close miking duties, from vocals to electric guitar amps, and is able to cope with a maximum SPL of 135dB. It seems a distant memory now to think back to a time (not so long ago) when ribbons were deemed too fragile to be placed in front of loud sound sources like guitar amps.

The AEA R92 ribbon microphone is one of the newest additions to the AEA family of microphones. The R92 motor has been designed to optimize AEA'sBigRibbon element to close micing situations. Reduced proximity bass boost and excellent wind blast protection make it suitable for close micing (6-12 inches) of guitar amps, vocals, percussion, etc.

The smooth high frequency response of the R88 and R84 transducers has been further extended in the R92, making it a unique voice in the world of ribbon mics. Two Voicings - Endless Possibilities AEA has designed the R92 to have slightly different tones on the front and rear pickup lobes of the bidirectional microphone. The front lobe of the R92.

AEA R92 Passive Ribbon Microphone

WELCOME Congratulations on your purchase of the AEA R92 ribbon microphone and welcome to the AEA family. AEA's team of engineers set out once again to expand the sonic possibilities of ribbon microphones with the R92 model. We consider the R92 a near-field ribbon, delivering a bass-to-treble balance from up- close.

The R92 is a "large geometry" passive ribbon microphone, with a thin (1.8 micron) aluminum ribbon nearly 60mm in length. It was designed to avoid the proximity effect of many passive ribbon designs, and therefore can be used relatively close to a sound source without excessive low-frequency buildup.

The R92 was designed in response to requests (from some guitar-playing AEA employees) for a mic that would sound great for recording guitars when placed right up against the amp grill. According to the manual, the R92 is optimized for distances of 6''-12'', and it does sound great on guitar amps, even at proximities approaching zero.

The AEA R92 is a pill-shaped, side-address, passive ribbon microphone with a bidirectional (or figure-of-8) pickup pattern. It is assembled with the same Big Ribbon™, tuning (16.5 Hz) and transformer as the R44. Accommodating close and medium miking duties, the R92 exhibits a flat frequency response when placed 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) away.

AEA R92

The AEA R92 is a bi-directional ribbon microphone optimised for flat-response working in close-miking situations. By reducing the proximity effect on the AEA R92, Audio Engineering Associates have used their experience in Large Ribbon Geometry to create an excellent microphone for close-up work, whether for recording vocals or speaker cabinets.
