The word is that McHitch, a small business making IMO great off-road trailer couplings who were located in part of what used to be the Lithgow Small Arms Factory have ceased to be in business. McHitch have not offered any explanation as to why they have closed down. I will be buying a spare unit while they are still available.

There has been some urgency because our new van will be ready for pick-up next week and the 4.75T coupling we wanted will not be available until about the middle of 2011.

Willie I have had a lot of trouble getting my McHitch to release on this trip. It is stuck so hard, I have to jack it up with the Trail-a-Mate, then I have to use my bottle jack to jack up the hitch as close as I can get to the pin. Mate just get it close, push down on the front of the screw head and lower the jockey wheel it goes on first time every time. Hooked up the van and went for a test run today for 50km on good and bad roads (without WDH) and to say the least I'm impressed and it wins my tick of approval.

Hitch failed at highway speed. contacted manufacturer. Was told hitch was old and had done a lot of work. It was 4 years old and had towed a van around australia on bitumen roads. It has a 5 year warranty. I was informed by manufacturer that he could not help me until he had personally inspected it at Lithgow NSW.
